Issue 22 | Gut Feelings: New Year and Same Old?
I feel as though 2025 slipped away like a thief in the night, from a house without a Ring camera. And it's not even January anymore. I don't know if I need to come in with some dramatic explanation of my absence from your inbox moreso than it's been busy. As it turns out, āIāll get to it laterā is not a strategy. So here I am, no major agenda, just a note to say 'hi' and touch upon the consistent messages I hope you get from my newsletter.
So without further ado:
1. Picky eating needs gut support
Picky eating is exactly why your child needs gut support. It's a symptom, not an end-all, be-all condition that you have 'navigate' and 'manage.' When the microbiome is imbalanced, certain foods can taste wrong, feel uncomfortable, or cause discomfort. Kids start to avoid foods that are harder to digest or that do not sit well in their bodies, even if they cannot explain it. What looks like pickiness is really the body communicating that something is off. Look here for some first steps and resources.
2. Fat is fuel, fat is fantastic, fat is fundamental
Most kids don't get enough nourishing fat in their diets. At least 3 generations of women have been frightened away from fat and that has had real, lasting consequences on their and their children's health. Eat the butter, add the cream, leave the skin on, keep the yolks. Look here and here for some additional ideas and strategies.
3. Understanding the Gut-Brain Connection can be magical
The gut-brain connection is real and it's powerful. Your child's behavior can be dramatically influenced through this connection. Digestive support, nourishing the gut microbiome, and removing toxins are powerful, doable, fundamental strategies to supporting children with ASD and other neurological challenges. Start here for a basic understanding of this connection and simple steps you can take today.
I'll be back in early Spring with some new resources for you, some more insights, and an inspiring case study from one of my clients.
Until then, wishing you warmth and health,
Lubna Nazarani
