Issue 23 | Gut Feelings: Meat Stock, exactly what your digestive system has been aching for (possibly literally)

by Lubna Nazarani
Oct 01, 2026

Hi Friend,

Here's a quick round-up of critical information I find myself explaining oft and again - I thought it would be nice to collect it all here for you so you can peruse at your leisure.

The Healing Elixir

Meat stock is the best. It's healing, soothing, feel-good, feel-warm, joy in a cup. It's the foundation of all the dietary protocols I recommend for clients, friends, and family. Feeling under the weather? Meat stock. Digestive distress? Meat stock. Undue anxiety? Meat stock. Challenges with ASD symptoms? Definitely meat stock. Is it only meat stock that solves these issues? Of course not - but it's definitely part of any complete, root-cause solution. Check out my recent blog post on it or, if you're already a believer, download the free recipe card.

Picky Eating is a Symptom

Food restriction, uber-finicky eating, and even ARFID, are symptoms of a disordered gut microbiome. Our gut bacteria and mouth bacteria influence cravings, taste, textures, and smells around food. It's not an end-all, be-all label that you just need to sit with while you watch your child struggling, unable to enjoy mealtimes or get necessary nutrients from sustaining foods. The root cause is in the gut. Work on the gut and ease around food will naturally come. Is it easy? Not always. But is it doable? Absolutely - I have seen it happen time and again with my young clients. Kids who would only eat donuts and apple sauce or french fries and pizza are now enjoying meat stock, baked chicken, yogurt, fruit, etc. Read more about it here, or start with my Free Guide, The First Bite, that walks you through how to get your child started on the road to leaving this most-frustrating symptom behind.

My Favorite Herbal and Natural Remedies

As we're getting into fall, I thought I'd reshare my favorite holistic remedies for addressing viruses. I've updated the article to add the most recent addition to my arsenal: fermented garlic - not only does it really work, it tastes pretty good. And it's so easy to make! The hardest part is the patience required while it turns into its potent magic. Click here to read about it and stock up on your defenses...

I'm working on something new for you...

Many people have been hanging around my instagram or email list for a while. I know you know that there's value in understanding the role of the gut microbiome in your child's behavior and symptoms, but you may not be quite ready to take on the intensity 1-on-1 sessions just yet. I get it, it's called 'life'. But I'm putting together a starter pack of sorts to help you understand what needs to happen, in which order, and why. It's going to have simple checklists, recipes, informational downloads, and quick videos to help you get a handle on all things ASD, GAPS, and what to do about it. Best of all, I want to make it easy for you to say yes to, so it will be budget-friendly. Stay tuned!

Issue 22 | Gut Feelings: New Year and Same Old?
I feel as though 2025 slipped away like a thief in the night, from a house without a Ring camera. And it's not even January anymore. I don't know if I need to come in with some dramatic explanation of my absence from your inbox moreso than it's been busy.  As it turns out, ‘I’ll get to it later’ is not a strategy. So here I am, no major agenda, just a note to say 'hi' and touch upon the consi...
Issue 21 | Gut Feelings: The Hidden Reason Picky Eating Gets Worse in September
Hi Friends, Back-to-school season is here already! And with it comes packed lunches, hurried mornings, and sometimes, added stress at the dinner table. If you’ve got a picky eater at home, you’re not alone. Many families tell me that this time of year makes food challenges even more stressful. But here’s the good news: small shifts in your child’s diet can have a big impact on focus, mood, and ...
Issue 20 | Gut Feelings
Reframing Picky Eating: From Survival Mode to Nourishment Picky Eating Is a Symptom Picky eating is often treated as a behavior to be corrected, something to work around with tricks and therapy. But in my practice, picky eating is a message from the body. It’s a symptom. A sign that the system doesn’t feel safe. That the gut is inflamed. That the nervous system is protecting instead of engagin...
